Guide.Net charges $100 to set up a new domain. Setting up a new domain consists of the
following steps. Either you or Guide.Net can perform the first step, which is to register the domain name.
The remaining steps are performed by Guide.Net.
1. R E G I S T E R N A M E
First the domain name must be registered with InterNIC.
This step can be performed by either you or Guide.Net (at no extra charge).
Name registration can be accomplished using one of the Internet Domain Name service companies, such as
Network Solutions or
Register.Com.
When registering the name, enter the name server information as follows:
| Name |
IP Address |
| NS1.MANOA.COM |
209.213.33.240 |
| NS2.MANOA.COM |
63.174.47.34 |
| NS3.MANOA.COM |
64.65.106.89 |
2. A C C O U N T A S S I G N M E N T
Next, a system administrator at Guide.Net assigns three IP addresses to the domain name
on each of the three servers.
Then a new user account for the domain is set up
on three Guide.Net servers.
All users are assigned to the user group.
These accounts are for FTPing website files.
Users can connect using which ever link provides the best performance.
3. D I R E C T O R Y S E T U P
Next, the web server directories are set up on the network file server
so they are visible from all three server user's accounts,
and owned by the user.
Separate cgi-bin and mod Perl directories can be setup optionally.
4. W E B S E R V E R S E T U P
Then the configuration files for the three
web servers must be modified to include the new virtual domain.
The configuration specifies whether a separate or the default cgi-bin and mod Perl directories
will be used.
Restarting the web servers completes the HTTPD reconfiguration.
5. N A M E S E R V E R S E T U P
Then, the domain names and their associated IP addresses are entered into Guide.Net's
ns1.manoa.com, ns2.manoa.com and ns3.manoa.com name servers.
Restarting the name servers completes the
name server reconfiguration.
